This week, Pingar sponsored the Southeast Asia SharePoint Conference in Singapore and the inaugural SharePoint Conference in Hong Kong. These two events gave me the opportunity to meet a number of potential partners and customers in the region.

In Singapore, the 500 delegates at the SE Asia SharePoint Conference selected Pingar as their SharePoint Idol! It was apparent from the activity on the Pingar Booth that the challenge facing enterprises with the exponential increase in unstructured data is a global one. Our selection as the Conference ‘SharePoint Idol’ reflected this.
In Hong Kong, I was delighted to announce a key strategic partnership with GSL Technology, a widely respected supplier of scanning, OCR and document management solutions that address specific business challenges with offices and support centers in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. This partnership will introduce Pingar text analysis and entity extraction technologies to Government agencies and major enterprises across the North Asia region.

At the SharePoint Conference in Hong Kong, we demonstrated automatic metadata assignment to Chinese language documents as they were scanned into Microsoft SharePoint 2010. We were also able to announce a new innovation; the ability to automatically detect language character sets in a document. This has significant benefits in Hong Kong where many documents include English & Chinese text. Automatic language detection means that the Pingar algorithms can return entity and metadata values for both language character sets in a single document.
In Singapore & Hong Kong, there was intense interest in Pingar’s current taxonomy research program. This maps similar interest expressed by partners and customers in the US, the UK and Australasia. Single-click custom taxonomy creation will have a major impact on how enterprises manage their unstructured data. It will be a key focus for Pingar in 2012.
We recently published a video that demonstrates our Chinese language entity extraction component in action. We have also made details of our Chinese language APIs available at two portals: You can view the traditional Chinese language text version or the simplified Chinese language text version.
At Pingar, we recognize that Asia is the sum of many parts. We have developed market strategies that focus on the opportunities and challenges that exist in its different regions. Our approach in North Asia is different to the GTM model for SE Asia. In South Asia, Pingar continues to grow. Pingar India Technologies Pvt Limited has recently added a Business Development function to the existing software development & support team in Bangalore. This will enable us to partner with many of the key IT outsourcing companies that offer great service and value to offshore clients.
The visit this week has reinforced in my own mind the special dynamism that exists in this part of the world. It remains a key focus for Pingar and offers a platform for significant growth in the medium term.
