It is 7 months since Pingar first launched its commercial API at the 2011 Australia SharePoint Conference in Sydney. Aimed at enterprise software developers, the Pingar API can be accessed via a free sandbox account from our main portal at www.pingar.com

The aim then, as it is now, was to deliver a state of the art set of Rapid Discovery, Entity Extraction & Content Analysis components which would rely heavily on both Natural Language Processing & Machine Learning Frameworks.

At the end of this month, we will be releasing Pingar API 3.0. This reflects Pingar’s on-going commitment to research to build on its leadership position in this space. The announcement last month of a major research project between Pingar and a University of Waikato team of PHD researchers, led by Professor Ian Witten, to build algorithms that will create custom enterprise taxonomies on the fly, underscores that commitment.

It was against this background that the Pingar team arrived at Anaheim, CA last week to demonstrate our new SharePoint-focused solutions to some of the 7,500 delegates attending the 2011 Microsoft SharePoint Conference.

On the Monday evening, we announced that Pingar and DICOM International AG had signed a major Partnership Agreement to jointly develop and deliver new after-capture scanning software solutions for DICOM’s 3,000 EMEA resellers. DICOM currently accounts for 40% of scanner distribution through EMEA representing major global scanner vendors including Fujitsu, Canon, Kodak & Panasonic. This announcement follows Pingar’s previous announcements about its partnership relationship with Fuji Xerox NZ.

A key objective for Pingar in Anaheim was to connect with potential System Integration and Reseller partners and build on our strong understanding of the Microsoft SharePoint platform. We achieved both. We lost count of the number of delegates and SI’s leaving our Booth saying, “That’s cool!” We will be following up with our visitors in the coming weeks, and are eager to learn more about their projects.

My overall impression of the Conference is that SharePoint is building significant momentum in the enterprise space.  The decision to move from a bi-annual event to an annual one (the next SP Conference is now slated for November 2012 in Lax Vegas) reflects this. And what about my view as to where Pingar sits in the SharePoint stack? In my introduction, I referred to Pingar’s absolute focus on developing NLP and ML frameworks for our core API components. The need to automate manual tasks is a key requirement for enterprises trying to get more value from their unstructured data and I believe that Pingar’s API technology offers this. I saw a limited application of this technology set in Anaheim, but not much. It was clearly the big Pingar differentiator. I guess if you look at the recently published Gartner Hype Curve, Pingar is in a sweet spot.

So what next for Pingar & SharePoint Partners & System Integrators? In November, Pingar is sponsoring both the 2011 South East Asia Conference in Singapore & the inaugural SharePoint Conference in Hong Kong. The challenge of successfully managing unstructured data facing enterprises is a global one. At Pingar, we launched our Chinese language version API in April at the 2011 International ICT Expo in Hong Kong. You can view that portal at www.pingar.com.hk In Anaheim, we announced plans to expand our presence in all our key markets:  Australasia, the USA (Sunnyvale), the UK / EMEA (Reading), Hong Kong & China (Cyberport, HK) & India (Bangalore).

The Pingar team left Anaheim in high spirits. It was another significant milestone in Pingar’s Go-to-Market strategy. The one question the team shared was: “If our go to market journey only began 7 months ago, what will the next 7 months bring?”

That’s the challenge the entire Pingar team is looking forward to.
