Frequently Asked Questions about the Pingar API

Pingar’s document analysis solution helps companies discover new value from masses of unstructured data.

What is the Pingar API?

An Application Programming Interface (API) allows one software program to ‘speak to’ another software program so that the two programs can interact to perform certain functions.

In Pingar’s case, its API will allow a company’s existing software programs to work with Pingar’s advanced data analysis and search technology to manage the company’s unstructured electronic data. Unstructured data can include: documents, web pages, emails, news or any kind of text. Companies will be able to review massive amounts of data with the touch of a button, rather than having the staff to do these tasks by hand – saving valuable time.

Who can use Pingar API?

Developers will be able to pick and choose between the different software components, so clients will only pay for the features of Pingar’s technology that they need. The Pingar API can be used on any technology platform. Developers can not only enhance clients’ existing software, they can use the API to create new applications.

How will Pingar API be supported?

Developers using Pingar API will be supported with free access to 24/7 online forums and regular webinars.

With Pingar API companies can utilise:

  • Rapid Discovery – a tool that can be added to existing search engines for rapid query refinement and results assessment
  • Entity Extraction – a suite of cutting-edge tools that turn documents into useful lists of entities including people’s names, telephone numbers, credit card numbers and organisations
  • Content Analysis – provides precision key-word extraction and on-click document summarisation and sanitisation

Pingar API tools will help companies make better sense of the data they own and deliver smarter, time-saving search and data analysis.

The result will be faster, more valuable management of data and custom-tailored solutions for different businesses and their programming needs – all of which work with a company’s existing software.

How to get started using the Pingar API?

First, make sure to register for an API key and create an application.
Add http://api3.pingar.com/PingarAPIService.asmx as a service reference to your project and refer to code samples to access different API features.

Is the Pingar API available via a RESTful web service?

At this stage it is only available via the SOAP-based web service. However, we will be adding a REST-based access in near future.

What are the usage restrictions on the API?

Currently the API supports two plans: Sandbox and Early Adopters. The Sandbox plan is free and supports 1000K per day. Note that those calls that take documents as an input, accept up to 10 documents per call. The total size of each document should not exceed 50KB. The Early Adopters plan does not have restrictions on the number of calls, but is priced for each call and the bandwidth.

How do the Pingar plans work?
Each developer gets a free access to the Sandbox plan for experimenting with the API’s features. Once an application goes into production, the plan needs to change to a paid plan.
